The sole survivor on a science vessel adrift in deep space, Zeus was adopted by the Emperor and Empress of the Mar'Sani, though he is both human and blind, and seen by most as unfit to join the royal family. Though they were able to repair his vision, Zeus does not trust his eyes and the nobles of his parents' court refuse to ever trust a frail human.

Dargon Kal-Turak, along with his symbiote and lover Alpha, command one of the most dangerous ships in the stars. Narrowly escaping a trap, they dock in a space port to make repairs, but find that the Psionics hunting them are closing in fast. In desperation they kidnap the port Master Mechanic, unaware that the man they've brought on board is more than he seems, and will bring far more upheaval to their ship, their lives, and the stars than any of them could have imagined.

A Terran space ship is found abandoned near the Mar’Sani home world. The only survivor on board is a blind infant taken to be human. Grieving over the loss of their own son, the Mar’Sani royal family adopts the boy, Zeus, and raises him as one of their own. Although loved by his fiercely loyal family, Zeus is never quite accepted by the rest of reptilian Mar’Sani society. After one particularly bad incident, Zeus decides to take a posting at a space station.

Captain Dargon is on the run from forces who seek the downfall of the powers that protect all the worlds against the invasion of a ravaging insect species. If he doesn't get his cargo to Valespia, the battle may be lost, but his ship is damaged and he needs repairs if they are to make it home, so he puts into the station where Zeus is working. Dargon and his crew have more reason than most to hate humans, but he, and his symbiote Alpha, are instantly attracted to the station's master mechanic, whom they believe to be human. With time running out, Dargon decides to kidnap the mechanic so he can finish the repairs en route, little realizing that Zeus is much more than he seems.

“Alpha Trine” manages to pack quite a bit of story into a relatively short novel. With a light mystical element (á la Star Wars), the story is a blend of science fiction and fantasy that doesn't stretch credulity too much. The characters, even very minor ones, are described in a way that fires the imagination and makes them very engaging within a few sentences. There's also more than a little gender-bending going on, as well as some challenging of traditional relationships.

Zeus is quite an interesting character. He is not some thinly veiled damsel-in-distress, such as is all too common on many gay stories. He has a great deal of mental as well as physical strength, something which in itself creates an unusual dynamic with Dargon, who imagines himself as the top dog in any relationship. The presence of a third being, in the form of Dargon's symbiote, adds yet another layer of complexity to the dynamic.

This was definitely a wild ride, that ended a little too quickly. However, it does end in a place without too many dangling loose ends, but that doesn't mean I won't be reading the second book in the series quite soon.

Alpha Trine The Valespian Pact Book 1 edition by Lexi Ander Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

A child found and deeply loved by an alien family, who grows to be more. This is an ambitious tale where the aliens aren't just like humans but blue--here they are, well alien. And the humans aren't necessarily the good guys. We see him grow and experience pain and find love in an unexpected place. This is well written with enough sci-fi to be legit but not enough to make you wish for a glossary. The hint of shifter romance is a nice touch.

This is a coming of age story, romance and mystery. I did read book two which expanded on plot points here. I really am eager to see this world grow and go forward.
I really really wanted to love this, and it was okay it for sure. The world building was fabulous and the story had a lot of promise. Why it wasn't a five?? - way too many alien characters and each one had its own full description, name, characteristics, and often, back story or detail of who was fighting who. Which would have been great for a three part series but was too much for a single book. I was completely lost and confused by 25% in and it didn't improve very much. I was fascinated by the idea of the menage but it was completely buried by the hundreds of unnecessary characters. I won't read the next one.
Wow. It's been awhile since a book kept me awake into the wee hours of the morning. Not only was this a well written sci-fi adventure, it was a wonderful romance. It's not perfect, but what few flaws I discovered did not at all hinder my complete enjoyment of the story. It swept me away from page one. I'll be waiting somewhat impatiently for the next book in this series. 4.5 stars rounded up to 5 stars. Highly recommended.
I really enjoyed this story. The mother’s grief was believable..even tho she believes Canry still lives. The way she claimed Zeus as her son was pretty awesome, but best was the way the rest of her family accepted him as well ;) Their devotion to their different child/sibling was beautiful.
I have to say I really like Zeus! He is very secure in his place & who he is...most especially when he was still blind. Having sight kinda of put him out & his preference for being without & feeling that he was more ‘whole’ sightless was kind of refreshing. For people who had sight & lost it that might seem backwards, but to a person who never had sight...who actually was content & never felt blind as Zeus is described suddenly dealing with the reality of visual sight & having to adjust would be challenging.
The Big Bad in the story is not fully explained but it looms in the story & I hope it is expanded on in the next book. Truthfully Zeus’s whole discovery of who he is & where he came from felt kind of clumsy? Dunno if that’s a good way to describe it, but it ties in with events & the past which have not been fully explained yet..so maybe that is why it jangled a bit?
The romance is Instalove...which I often love but this time felt too rushed ,too forced. I didn’t understand Dargons hostility & how he missed the apparently obvious resemblance of Zeus to the people Dargon had just rescued. Maybe it was more about trying to resist his instant want of Zeus & how adamant Alpha was that they claim him? Dunno...but the relationship lacked something.
I DID enjoy the twist with Alpha being a full participant in the physical relationship( tho still not clear on Alphas race past but hope future books will fill out/explain) Totally loved this version of procreation! Tho in the story it’s damn fast! lol
Also the fact that Dargon shifts into a cat form doesn’t seem to serve a purpose? He is already catlike so didn’t feel a full shift to a lion like beast adds anything to the story.
I have hope their relationship will evolve as the story progresses.
So overall I really like this story & will be reading the next book😁
